xG stands for expected goals, a metric that measures the quality of a shot based on several factors such as distance, angle, type of assist, etc. It assigns a probability of scoring to each shot, ranging from 0 to 1. G then stands for actual goals, which is the number of times a shot results in a goal. xG and G can be compared to see how efficient or lucky a player or team is. For example, if a player has an xG of 10 but only scores 5 goals, it means that they are underperforming or unlucky. On the other hand, if a player has an xG of 5 but scores 10 goals, it means that they are overperforming or lucky.

xG as well as xGA (assists) and xP (passing) with others can be used to evaluate the expected performance of players and teams, as well as to predict future outcomes.

xG is statistical measurement calculated on past G opportunities.
